Updated: Nov 8, 2021

Liposuction

Liposuction is an aesthetic technique that removes excess fat that cannot be eliminated by diet and exercise. This is usually done by a surgeon who is applied to the hip, abdomen, thigh, breast, arm, face and neck-ticle area to correct the form. Liposuction can also be performed together with other aesthetic surgeries such as face lift and breast lift.

Liposuction is not a plastic surgery performed to lose weight. It is also not a cellulite treatment. It is an invasive surgical technique. Therefore, you must be in good general health. It is recommended that you have a body mass index below 30%; this means you are close to your ideal weight. It is important to have firm and supple skin. You must not smoke. If you have a health problem related to the circulatory system or heart disease, diabetes or a weak immune system, you should give all this information to the doctor before the operation. You should also tell your surgeon about your allergy history and medications. It is recommended that you do not take medications such as blood thinners and some pain relievers 2 weeks before the surgery.

Are Liposuction Results Permanent?

Fat cells are permanently removed during liposuction. However, if you continue to gain weight, you may gain weight with fat cells located in different parts of your body except the area taken. So there will be lubrication in other parts of you. In order to preserve the new body shape you have gained after the surgery, away from sugar-sweet and pastries; It is recommended to shape your life with a diet containing protein, fruits and vegetables, grains and less fat. In addition, exercises should be done regularly.

During the treatment process, you can:

  • You can drink plenty of water, unsweetened natural juices and herbal teas, because fluid intake plays an important role in the healing process.

  • Try to consume fresh vegetables.

  • Strengthen your bonds with fruits, but you need to be careful as most fruits are high in sugar.

  • Omega-3 fatty acids, fish, walnuts, etc. must be consumed.

  • Try to consume nuts and legumes.

  • A whole grain diet may be recommended.

What to avoid?

  • You should stay away from sugar and sweets and pastries. Meat/chicken or skim milk and dairy products or legumes, whole grains are the right choice to ensure adequate protein intake.

  • Salty diet is not recommended during recovery after liposuction surgery. High sodium levels retain water in your body, which can increase edema, increase complaints about swelling, and slow the healing process.

  • Salt restriction should be done for at least 2-4 months after liposuction. Instead of using salt, add spices such as onions, garlic, cinnamon, dried basil, thyme and parsley to your diet.

  • You should limit the consumption of sugary and floury foods after liposuction. Eating sugary foods after this operation may cause weight gain.

  • Liquor may adversely affect the treatment process after the operation and may cause dehydration. You should avoid alcohol at least 2 weeks before the procedure and consider the recommendations of your doctor or nutritionist for the next period.

The frequency of complications after liposuction is low, and the main complications are usually related to inadequate technique and inability to manage the preoperative / postoperative period. There are several points to consider before liposuction to prevent complications and to ensure that the target result can be achieved and complications are managed appropriately.

Cut off the blood thinners you take 2 weeks before, wear a corset, and make sure that there are no varicose veins and thrombus-clots in your leg veins before the operation. If any, these should be treated first and then liposuction should be performed. In addition, necessary precautions should be taken before and after the surgery, and you should discuss this with your doctor.
